Anti-Slip Decking Oil is a clear oil for use on any timber decking and external wooden stairs where an anti-slip finish is required. Wet timber can become quite slippery. Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil reduces this risk of slipping and helps to protect you and your family against such accidents.
A 2 coat application, this product is designed primarily as an anti slip finish for use in commercial situations such as an exterior timber deck attached to a cafe, which may become wet and slippery, or any area where an anti slip finish is required, such as around a swimming pool etc. For full effect, and because the product offers limited UV protection, the finish will need to be reapplied once or twice a year in areas which are fully exposed to the weather.
For longer recoat times, a pigmented first coat of one of Osmo's coloured decking oils will give greater UV protection. A top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil should then be applied.Osmo's Anti Slip Decking Oil has been tested in NZ by Opus Laboratories for its anti slip effectiveness. (Opus Laboratories also conduct testing for BRANZ). When applied correctly, the results achieved exceed the requirements of the NZ Building Code. A copy of the test certificate can be supplied upon request.
The oil contains special compressed organic particles, which are evenly dispersed within the finish, providing an anti slip surface once cured. However, the effectiveness of the "Anti-Slip" component depends on a lot of factors, such as whether the timber has residual water from a swimming pool on it, whether the people are running or walking or whether they are wearing jandals or have bare feet etc.
Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil has excellent coverage. On new, smooth hardwood decking, coverage is approximately 24 square metres per litre. A 2.5 litre can will cover 60 square metres with one coat. On grooved timber, coverage rates are reduced by approximately 30% due to the increase in surface area. Coverage rates on new, smooth softwood decking such as pine will be around 15 square metres per litre. On older timbers, the coverage rate will be less again.
Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil should not be applied if the timber's moisture content is above 18%.
Easy to apply, using a good quality bristle brush, or Osmo's decking brush set. The use of a roller for application of this product is not recommended. Drying time is 12-24 hours depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
Anti Slip Decking Oil is easy to maintain. When used as a 2 coat clear finish, a one coat rejuvenation will be required after approximately 6 - 9 months depending on exposure. Where the oil has been used as a top coat over one of the coloured Decking Oils, rejuvenation should be every 12 -18 months.
